Career Services

Career Services provides skill assessment services, employability skills training, and career development counseling to unemployed and underemployed adults. The staff of Career Services works one-on-one with industries facing layoffs or closures; educates affected employees in developing soft skills and job seeking skills; works closely with local partners to help the workforce access available services; and, serves existing industry expansions, and future employment needs by identifying and training a workforce with interview and job-readiness skills.

The core objectives of Career Services includes assessment of an individual’s assets and limitations, development of positive self-concept, employability skills, communication skills, problem-solving skills, and awareness of the impact of information technology in the workplace.

Achievement of a North Carolina Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC) is a major goal of Career Services. NCRC course objectives will incorporate preparation for successful completion of testing related to Workplace Documents, Applied Math, and Graphic Literacy through the WorkKeys skills assessment system.

Human Resources Development

This class will prepare you to understand and work with the computer on a basic level. Skills learned include basic keyboarding, word processing and internet skills, email, applying for employment online and accessing governmental and educational resources and services. This is a 42 hour class.听

This course is designed to give incoming students a basic knowledge of how to use technology to succeed in an online setting. Students will learn a variety of online and computer programs that will enable them to create presentations, projects, posters, and reports. In addition, this class will familiarize students with basic computing principles and terminology by engaging in real-world activities.

Students will also become acquainted with modern technology and learn why it is important. They will explore topics such as computer hardware, software, document processing, and a variety of other useful applications, and review basic netiquette and internet safety skills. When students understand how computers work, finding solutions to technological problems becomes a lot easier.听

This curriculum framework is designed to help adults develop workplace skills through personal and career development.鈥 Topics include developing a dynamic 谤别蝉耻尘茅 and learning interviewing skills that will build your confidence. Students will practice different types of interviews including phone interviews, 鈥痯anel interviews, and virtual interviewing.鈥 This course will also include developing a moderate comfort level of basic computer-use skills, using technology in developing and implementing job search strategies and researching career and occupational information.听

鈥淲ORKING SMART鈥 鈥 SOFT SKILLS FOR WORKPLACE SUCCESS听

Working Smart is a soft-skills program developed by the Charlotte Mecklenburg Workforce Developmental Partners (CMWDP). It is designed to provide job seekers work and life skills that enhance employee productivity and confidence. Employers are looking for candidates who have the 鈥淪oft Skills鈥 that lead to success. Modules that will be covered are: Communication, Problem-Solving Skills, Time Management, Accountability and more.听

The Working Smart 16-lesson curriculum is taught over a minimum of 24 hours.鈥疨articipants will receive a certificate from 91快播 after they demonstrate competencies using self-awareness, self-management, communication and problem solving skills.鈥疘n addition, this credential validates that participants have mastered the skills taught in the Working Smart program and gives students the edge to future job opportunities.听

National Career Readiness Certificate 

The National Career Readiness Certificate is a nationally recognized, research-based, portable credential that certifies essential skills needed for success in the workplace. It鈥檚 used by employers to gauge a job candidate鈥檚 competencies in Applied Math, Graphics Literacy and Workplace Documents. Some companies in Cleveland County require or prefer job candidates to earn the NCRC credential before allowing them to apply for jobs. Students enrolled in the NCRC online class will take the pre-assessment (practice test questions) to gauge their current level in all three sections of the NCRC to ensure they are ready to take the exam. The online class also gives students an opportunity to skill up on any section to raise their skill level before taking the final exam. Students who complete the NCRC exam can earn a Bronze, Silver, Gold or Platinum certificate. 91快播 offers a credit-by-credential for Humanities 115 – Critical Thinking, to students who score a Gold or above on the NCRC exam. 

Certifications and Renewals

The Auto Safety Inspection class prepares students to obtain or renew the license for North Carolina Auto Safety Inspection. Class size is limited.听This is an 8 hour class.听

The OBD II Emission Control Inspection course is designed to renew or train auto technicians and service personnel as OBD emission inspectors. Course topics include regulations and test inspection procedures required by the NC DMV. Upon completion, a student should understand the rules, regulations, and procedures for OBD emission inspections, be able to inspect a vehicle properly, and be prepared to sit for the state certification exam. Class size is limited.听

ServSafe is a Food Service, Safety and Sanitation Certification course for those working in the food service industry. This is a 7-hour class.听

The Electronic Notary Public course is designed for instructional areas related to individuals who want to become commissioned as an electronic notary. Topics include legal, ethical and procedural requirements of the Notary Act set forth in the General Statute 10B Article 2. Upon completion of this course with a passing exam grade of 80%, a person is eligible to make application with the NC Secretary of State office. Individuals must have current notary commission to participate in E-notary training. This is a 4-hour class.听

NCCER Level 1 Welding Academy (Day)

Student will complete the Core and Welding level one book. This covers everything from basic safety to welding open root. SMAW (stick) welding in all positions, 1F, 2F, 3F, 4F, 1G, 2G, 3G, 4G and oxy-fuel cutting. Students earn NCCER Welding Certifications.

NCCER Level 2 Welding Academy (Saturday)

The NCCER Level 2 Welding Academy class will focus on GMAW and FCAW wire welding in all positions and plasma cutting, welding symbols, welding detail drawing and SMAW stainless steel welding. Instruction will be provided by lecture and demonstration. Candidates who successfully complete the course curriculum modules will be sent to NCCER for listing on the national registry.

NCCER Level 3 Welding Academy

The entire NCCER Level 3 Welding Academy course will teach introduction into Flux Core Welding (GMA), GMAW and FCAW equipment and filler metals, GMAW & FMAC Plate, FCAW-Pipe, GTAW-Pipe, GTAW-low alloy and stainless steel pipe, SMAW-open root pipe welds. Students will learn measurements and utilize math skills with welding blue prints. Students will receive instruction through lecture, demonstration and practical applications. Students who successfully and satisfactorily complete the requirements of this class will have transcripts sent to NCCER for listing on the national registry. Attendance is required. All absences must be approved by instructor.

The 6-hour Notary Public course is mandated by the North Carolina Secretary of State for individuals interested in obtaining a commission as a Notary Public in North Carolina. Topics to be covered are requirements for collecting fees, general powers and limitations, oaths, and more. Participants must reside or work in the state of North Carolina and read and write English. High School Diploma or GED is required. This is a 6 hour class.听

This course includes basic nursing skills required to provide safe, competent personal care for individuals. Emphasis is placed on person-centered care, the aging process, communication, safety/emergencies, infection prevention, legal and ethical issues, vital signs, height and weight measurements, elimination, nutrition, basic restorative care/rehabilitation, dementia, mental health and end-of-life care. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills and be eligible to test for listing on the North Carolina Nurse Aide I Registry.听

This course features training which focuses on installing, configuring, and managing VMware vSphere 7.0, which includes VMware ESXi 7.0 and VMware vCenter Server 7.0. This course prepares you to administer a VSphere infrastructure for an organization of any size. This course is the foundation for most of the other VMware technologies in the software 鈥 defined data center.听

Students who complete this course will receive a 70% off discount voucher for the VMware VCTA exam.听

This course features training which focuses on installing, configuring, and managing VMware vSphere 7.0, which includes VMware ESXi 7.0 and VMware vCenter Server 7.0. This course prepares you to administer a VSphere infrastructure for an organization of any size. This course is the foundation for most of the other VMware technologies in the software 鈥 defined data center.听

This course satisfies the training requirement for the VCP-DCV Professional VMware Certification. Students who complete this course will receive a 70% off discount voucher for the VMware VCP-DCV Professional exam.听
