This course covers the basic principles of materials management. Emphasis is placed on the planning, procurement, movement, and storage of materials. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate an understanding of the concepts and techniques related to materials management.

This course provides an overview of the complete medical assisting curriculum. Emphasis is placed on all facets of medical assisting pertinent to administrative, laboratory, and clinical procedures performed in the medical environment. This course introduces the fundamentals of medical insurance and billing. Emphasis is placed on the medical billing cycle to include third party payers, coding concepts, and form preparation. Upon completion, students should be able to explain the life cycle of and accurately complete a medical insurance claim.

This course provides instruction that will prepare students to sit for a national coding certification exam. Topics include diagnostic and procedural coding. Upon completion, students should be able to sit for various medical coding certification exams.

This course introduces the complex legal, moral, and ethical issues involved in providing health-care services. Emphasis is placed on the legal requirements of medical practices; the relationship of physician, patient, and office personnel; professional liabilities; and medical practice liability. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of current medical law and accepted ethical behavior.

This course introduces prefixes, suffixes, and word roots used in the language of medicine. Topics include medical vocabulary and the terms that relate to the anatomy, physiology, pathological conditions, and treatment of selected systems. Upon completion, students should be able to pronounce, spell, and define medical terms as related to selected body systems and their pathological disorders.

This course is the second in a series of medical terminology courses. Topics include medical vocabulary and the terms that relate to the anatomy, physiology, pathological conditions, and treatment of selected systems. Upon completion, students should be able to pronounce, spell, and define medical terms as related to selected body systems and their pathological disorders.

This course examines current issues affecting the management of healthcare delivery systems. Topics include current problems, changes, and challenges in the healthcare environment. Upon completion, students should be able to identify current healthcare issues and their impact on healthcare management.

This course covers principles of microbiology and the impact these organisms have on man and the environment. Topics include the various groups of microorganisms, their structure, physiology, genetics, microbial pathogenicity, infectious diseases, immunology, and selected practical applications. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills including microscopy, aseptic technique, staining, culture methods, and identification of microorganisms. This course contains a lab component. This course has been approved for transfer under the CAA and ICAA as a premajor and/or elective course requirement.

This course provides a survey of critical infrastructure and its impact on mission critical operations. Topics include an introduction to concepts, theory, terminology, and best practices regarding critical infrastructure assets essential for the economy and the functioning of society. Upon completion, students should be able to name critical infrastructure sectors, explain relationships between infrastructure sectors, discuss the roles government and private entities play in maintaining critical infrastructure and their impact on daily life.
