Barber Academy I

This academy provides students with the knowledge and skills needed to pass the NC Board of Barber Licensing Exam, thereby equipping them for the professional work force. Each student will be empowered with confidence, professionalism, and enthusiasm to meet the demands of the ever-changing industry. Students will become socially competent members of their community and will have the knowledge and ethics consistent with responsible social and professional behavior. Barbering consists of hair cutting, shaving, trimming the beard, coloring the hair, applying hair tonics, permanent waving, mar celling the hair, facial and scalp massages, and treatment with oils, creams, lotions, or other preparations by hand or mechanical appliances. Required hours to graduate: 1528

Basic Anatomy and Physiology

This course provides a basic study of the structure and function of the human body. Topics include a basic study of the body systems as well as an introduction to homeostasis, cells, tissues, nutrition, acid-base balance, and electrolytes. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate a basic understanding of the fundamental principles of anatomy and physiology and their interrelationships. This course contains a lab component. This course has been approved for transfer under the CAA and ICAA as a premajor and/or elective course requirement.

This course introduces basic drawing techniques and is designed to increase observation skills. Emphasis is placed on the fundamentals of drawing. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate various methods and their application to representational imagery. Basic Farm Maintenance

This course covers fundamentals of maintenance and repair of farm facilities and equipment. Topics include safe use of hand tools and farm machinery, carpentry, concrete, painting, wiring, welding, plumbing, and calculating costs and materials needed. Upon completion, students should be able to answer theoretical questions on topics covered and assist with maintenance and repair of farm facilities and equipment.

Basic Law Enforcement BLET

This course covers the basic knowledge and skills needed for entry-level employment as a law enforcement officer in North Carolina as required by the Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission and the Sheriff's Education and Training Standards Commission. Topics include Commission-mandated content specific to law enforcement in North Carolina, criminal investigations, traffic enforcement/investigations, patrol techniques, crisis intervention, communication and de-escalation skills, interviews and interrogations, criminal and constitutional law, court procedures, civil process, ethical problem solving, and officer wellness. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate competence in the content required for the state comprehensive certification examination administered by the NC Department of Justice.
