This curriculum prepares individuals to repair and maintain electrical and mechanical systems and physical structures of commercial and industrial institutions. Emphasis is on multi-disciplined systems maintenance, troubleshooting, and problem resolution. Coursework includes carpentry, interior and exterior finishes, plumbing, electrical, air conditioning, heating, welding, machining, blueprint reading, OSHA regulations and computer applications. Graduates should qualify for positions as general building mechanics or maintenance technicians.

This certificate program will provide industrial and municipal firefighters and brigade members the technical information to inspect plant facilities and make recommendations. Plant Emergency Organization operations and other safeguards will be covered. All certificate courses are creditable toward the associate degree that the College is approved to offer. Program Outcomes: Analyze the history of the fire service and prevention and identify key events that have shaped present day fire protection. The Fire Protection Technology curriculum is designed to provide students with knowledge and skills in the technical, managerial, and leadership areas necessary for advancement within the fire protection community and related firefighting industries, and to provide currently employed firefighters with knowledge and skills often required for promotional consideration. Course work includes diverse fire protection subject areas, including fire prevention and safety, public education, building construction, fire ground strategies and tactics, and local government finance and laws, as they apply to emergency services management. Emphasis includes understanding fire characteristics and the structural consequences of fire; risk assessment and management; and relevant research, communications, and leadership methodologies. Graduates qualify for employment with fire departments, governmental agencies, industrial firms, insurance rating organizations and educational organizations. Employed persons should have opportunities for skilled and supervisory level positions within their current organizations. Apply basic management skills including; budgeting, risk management, accountability, supervision, occupational health and safety, public relations, and basic leadership strategies. Demonstrate the ability to compose an incident action plan for various emergency and non-emergency events using the National Incident Management System (NIMS) and implement the appropriate strategies and tactics taking into account resources, accountability, and firefighter safety. Analyze available water sources and the use of hydraulic principles in determining available flow, needed fire flow, pump discharge pressure, and other hydraulic calculations. The Fire Protection Technology certificate program is designed to provide knowledge of the fire service and its infrastructure. This program will focus on developing a sound foundation and understanding of the history of the fire service, public education, fire service building construction, introduction to wildland firefighting, fire sprinklers and auto alarms and fire protection law. All certificate courses are creditable toward the Associate in Applied Science in Fire Protection Technology. This certificate will not meet any of the requirements for State Certification as a firefighter. The General Occupational Technology (GOT) curriculum provides individuals with an opportunity to upgrade skills and earn an associate degree by completing courses suited to individual occupational interests and/or needs. The curriculum content will be customized for students according to occupational interests and need. A program of study for each student will be selected from any non-developmental level courses offered by the College. Graduates will become more effective workers, better qualified for advancements within their field of employment, and become qualified for a wide range of entry-level employment opportunities.

The Heavy Equipment Operator Academy is a 10-week training program that prepares students with the knowledge, skills, and certificates that the State DOT, highway construction companies, bridge construction companies, and private contractors across the country require for entry-level jobs. Heavy equipment operators run heavy machinery, install underground piping, develop land for construction, and repair America’s roadways and bridges. These careers are for highly skilled employees who enjoy being outdoors and like working in a team environment where safety is the number one priority. Students can enroll in the entire HEO Academy (the Basic course) or they can enroll in the equipment training only (the Advanced course). The Basic course includes CDL Class “A” license training. The required DMV exam to earn the CDL is given onsite. For the Basic course, students must purchase safety boots, and pay for a DOT physical and a CDL permit, in addition to the registration fees. The Advanced course is training for heavy equipment operation only. It does not include the CDL training. In addition to registration fees, advanced students must purchase safety boots. Students should register for both Basic and Advanced, or Advanced only. Students cannot register for Basic only. This Academy is offered four times a year. There are two fall classes; the first starts in July and the second in October. The spring class begins in January. The summer class begins in April.

The Industrial Systems Technology curriculum is designed to prepare or upgrade individuals to safely service, maintain, repair, or install equipment. Instruction includes theory and skill training needed for inspecting, testing, troubleshooting, and diagnosing industrial systems. Students will learn multi-craft technical skills in print reading, mechanical systems maintenance, electricity, hydraulics/pneumatics, welding, machining or fabrication, and includes various diagnostic and repair procedures. Practical application in these industrial systems will be emphasized and additional advanced course work may be offered. Upon completion of this curriculum, graduates should be able to individually, or with a team, safely install, inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain industrial process and support equipment. Students will also be encouraged to develop their skills as life-long learners.

Instruction includes theory and skill training needed for inspecting, testing, troubleshooting, and diagnosing industrial equipment and physical facilities. Students will learn technical skills in blueprint reading, electricity, hydraulics/pneumatics, machining, welding, and various maintenance procedures. Practical application in these industrial systems will be emphasized and additional advanced coursework may be offered. Upon completion of any of the various levels of this curriculum, graduates should gain the necessary practical skills and related information to qualify for employment or advancement in the various areas of industrial maintenance technology.

Enrollment in the Information Technology - Business Administration certificate is contingent upon successful completion of the Information Technology Foundations certificate. This certificate provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to manage information technology departments and small businesses in information technology. Upon completing this certificate, students should be prepared for the current CompTIA Project+ certification.
